The new Chanel Les 9 Ombres Palette, $70, from the Bound-Summertime Collection 2018

Take y'all been to Chanel lately? — similar within the last couple years? Because every fourth dimension I go there, it'southward like — and I mean this in a practiced way — I'g well-nigh to see what's backside door number iii in The Cost Is Right. I don't know what's gonna exist there! Will it be a goat? A trip to Italian republic? Will there exist a red Radio Flyer carriage? I Only DON'T KNOW. And those fun, frequent surprises are making me an even bigger fan of the make.

Always since Lucia Pica took the reins, there have been so many artistic twists and turns, especially with colour. She does a lot of themed collections, and yep, Chanel has e'er liked themed launches, only Lucia's themes and visions always seem stiff, and I totally get what she's trying to do.

The collections are often travel related, and the colors and textures will refer to places she's visited and lived. This one for spring/summertime is a homage to her hometown of Naples, Italy. Information technology's similar, bright explosive colors — greens, blues, yellows, reds. Those are the visuals, but you know me, much equally I beloved colour, I too dear neutrals, and at that place are many lovely neutrals here, too, particularly in the eyeshadow palette, which, by the way, is SUCH a nice surprise.

SWOON.

Information technology's a 9-pan palette called Les 9 Ombres, and information technology's $70, which is expensive, merely it's a relative "bargain" for Chanel, considering that they've done other palettes with v eyeshadows for $fifty.

And everything in it is article of clothing — yes, including the blueish and dark-green in the middle.

(Side note: fifty-fifty if you don't consider yourself a colorful eyeshadow person, I still totally believe that you can work both of these shades. You could use them every bit eyeliners — practice the thinnest line on the upper lash line if yous're shy! — or mix the green or the blueish into one of the neutrals, like the taupe, or the bronze on the lower right-manus side, and then pop that on your lids for a twist of unexpected but totally bourgeois color.)

You'll notice that nearly all of the shades in this eyeshadow palette are neutrals, which, yous know, yay for usability! — but also, the eyeshadows are fifty-fifty college quality than usual. As if that's even possible! Chanel stepped it upwards. Well, more like leaped up! The shadows feel almost incomprehensibly proficient.

I'm wearing the matte dark-brown and coral in the crease, the shimmery bronze on my lids, and the matte grayish black on my lash lines.

They're fifty-fifty softer and silkier than typical Chanel pulverization eyeshadows, and they're also more than pigmented, which is a refreshing surprise — non to slam the sheerer eyeshadow palettes they've been pushing out at all, considering I love them, also/a>. Considering if you're too rushed or tired to do any hard-core, serious blending, and/or only accept ten minutes or less to become ready (and I'k normally 1 or both on whatever given day), those less pigmented eyeshadows just make life easier.

If y'all want to do something dramatic with this palette, or if you just want a moderately intense eyeshadow look where you tin really come across the makeup, this palette gives you that pick without forcing you to layer 10 pounds of makeup…just fifty-fifty if y'all Do build upwardly quite a few layers, the eyeshadows don't expect heavy.

This is going straight into my everyday Chanel eyeshadow rotation, alongside the Codes Subtils, Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural and Tissé Rivoli palettes.

On my cheeks: Chanel Malice. On my lips: Rouge Coco Gloss in 794 Poppea (also from the aforementioned drove). Lashes: Demsions de Chanel in Nero Metalllo 50 (also from Spring-Summertime)

Chanel often caters to that subset of makeup lovers who crave very subtle, conservative colour, and this palette may not appeal to that particular group of peeps as much some of the brands other palettes practice, but I think information technology's refreshing because sometimes I DO want to clothing more dramatic looks, and y'all tin certainly get in that location with this palette. It'south ane of the best I've e'er seen from the brand, and non just considering of the stiff pigments and supernaturally silky powders, or the 8-hour vesture time, but also considering of the particular combination of colors they chose to include. Y'all tin do so much with them!
